Jesus started a new organization (the church) to fulfill His personal mission.
Organizationally, Jesus walked them through the five key parts of leading that effective churches/organizations use (Matthew 16):
Clarify Purpose (included Mission, Vision & Values):
Mission: “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God” – verse 16
Vision: “For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” – verses 27-28
Establish Values:
- Set your mind on the things of God instead of the things of man. – verse 23
- Lose your life to find your life. – verse 25
Creat the Plan
“…go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.” – Verse 21
Do the Work
“Jesus answered them, ‘I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name bear witness about me,'” – John 10:25 (Just one example of many after Jesus established the plan in Matthew 16. The work follows the plan.)
Design the Format (how the church/organization is organized)
- The twelve disciples Jesus involved became the leaders of the church. – verse 13
- Peter took initiative and became the leader – verse 16
Improvement Regularly
Jesus later said: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” – John 14:12
The video shows how these five components fit together.
Effective churches/organizations follow the same pattern.
