Beware the DK Effect
Through the years, I’ve been fascinated by people with little or no experience who think they know more than a senior leader who God uses to do great things.
It never made any sense. It still doesn’t.
Here’s a scenario I witnessed: A person called to the ministry listened to a lot of sermons by a particular pastor in another state. The listener then assumed he knew more than the senior pastor of his own church. The listener started telling other church members the senior pastor (including the senior leadership) is misleading the church.
Utterly fascinating.
I participated in the “come to Jesus meeting” where we re-established expectations.
Even though I experienced it, I didn’t realize how common the experience is. It is so common, in fact, it has a name.
