What is the best form of church governance

What is the best form of church governance?

Church governance describes the way a church is ordered or led. We often use the word “polity,” to describe how churches operate from a leadership standpoint. It comes from the word “polis” used of the Greek city-state of ancient Greece.

Churches observe four basic forms of governance:

• Episcopal
• Connexional
• Presbyterian
• Congregational

After these four basic forms, you will find various hybrids and combinations of each.

The truth is the Bible does not prescribe any of them. At best, we look at the Scriptures and make some informed guesses as to what the church governance in a local church should be. There are principles to follow, for sure. But, since the Bible does not clearly define how a church should be governed, there is no one right form of church governance.

If your church is associated with a denomination or group that requires a certain form of governance, then that’s the one you must use.

But, if you don’t have a requirement, what is the best form of church governance?

Today’s video gives you the answer.
